Université de Bordeaux

Why choose us?

This summer school extends a doctoral training initiative launched in 2023 by the University of Bordeaux (Graduate Research School) in partnership with INRAe and the ENLIGHT University Alliance. It offers an original focus on reflexivity in decision-making within the Anthropocene context rather than on climate change per se. Co-constructed by social scientists from the University of Bordeaux, INRAe, (National research institute for agriculture, food and environment) and the research network "Tackling global change for people and environment" this training course offers a programme on decision-making adapted to doctoral students from all disciplines.

A network of excellence for decision-making in transitions

Embedded in the University of Bordeaux’s social sciences and sustainability ecosystem, the programme brings together researchers in political science, sociology, economics, and management with colleagues in environmental and life sciences. During this summer school, students will learn to critically appraise decision-making processes in an original and interdisciplinary way, and with a view to applying new decisional methods to address a range of sustainability issues and environmental challenges (water quality, energy transition, forest fires, urban green development, environmental justice...).

International perspectives

The school is supported by the ENLIGHT University Alliance welcoming contributions from partner universities such as Bern, Groningen, and Uppsala. Invited speakers share comparative insights on sustainability governance, offering participants a plural, European view of transition policies and practice.

Real-life learning environment

A distinctive feature of the programme is its close collaboration with the University of Bordeaux’s living labs (Institute for Transitions). Participants work on full-scale, real-life case studies, from biodiversity governance to heat-wave preparedness, co-designed with local actors.
